The Biennale addresses the themes of this year’s edition of the festival in two separate rounds of discussions. Artistic directors Tsangaris and Ott will talk about the overall concept of “On the way” whilst the participating artists in the “New Lines” city project will discuss the structures of independent producing and independent music theatre in public spaces.
1. Juni 2024 – Daniel Ott & Manos Transgaris, Moderation Michaela Fridrich (BR-KLASSIK)
Schnee von morgen? Well, it wouldn’t be snows of yesteryear! In this, their last year as artistic directors of the Munich Biennale, Daniel Ott and Manos Tsangaris look back over the development of the festival since 2016. Back then they stepped up as a team that aimed to ensure a new direction, with thematic focal points, unusual performance spaces, and co-productions with different partners. In keeping with this year’s motto “On the way”, they are turning their gaze forward to the future of music theatre in this time of change and profound upheaval. On the way, they might even divulge what their gaze into the crystal ball, sorry, snow globe, revealed once the flurries subside.

In conversation with festival dramaturgs, the artists from Het Geluid (NL), Oblivia (FIN) and Novoflot (D) talk about theatrical futurology and their productions for Munich’s urban spaces as well as the complex challenge of producing contemporary music theatre outside of municipal and state institutions.
Free entry and no registration required.
Attention change of location: The talk on 6 June, 22:00, will take place in the Foyer Philharmonie.
